Complaints relating to industrial action

If you have been affected by industrial action, the process for raising concerns will depend on the nature of the disruption.

My concern relates to a marking and assessment boycott (MAB)

A marking and assessment boycott may affect the timing of marking, feedback, results and progression decisions.

If you believe that a marking and assessment boycott has affected you, you may submit a complaint through the University's standard Stage Two complaints process. However, complaints relating to a marking and assessment boycott can only be considered once your final results and progression outcome have been formally confirmed through a ratified transcript.

Complaints relating to a marking and assessment boycott should be submitted within three months of the publication of your final ratified transcript.

You may find it helpful to keep a record of any disruption you experience and retain any supporting evidence, particularly where you believe you have suffered a financial loss, missed an opportunity relating to employment or further study, or experienced a significant impact on your wellbeing.

My concern relates to missed teaching caused by strike action

The University will operate a separate complaints process for concerns relating to missed or disrupted teaching resulting from strike action.

We are not currently accepting complaints relating to the impact of strike action. This is because the full impact of industrial action can only be assessed once the relevant period of industrial action has concluded.

Students who believe they may be affected are encouraged to keep a record of any disruption they experience, including:

  • the date of the affected session;
  • the module or activity affected;
  • the number of hours affected; and
  • any resulting impact on their studies.

Further information regarding the strike complaints process, including how and when to submit a complaint, will be published here once the duration and extent of the industrial action are known.

If you require immediate academic support in relation to disruption caused by industrial action, you should contact your personal tutor, programme convenor or the Student Hub in the first instance.
