Young Writer Competitions
Our writing competitions for young people aged 16-18 aim to uncover the next generation of writing talent.
This is the place for Young Writers and Young Podcasters
We offer three creative competitions:
- Young Writer
A thousand-word short story competition, supported by academic staff in Literary and Creative Studies.
- Young Anthropologist
A thousand-word essay competition, supported by academic staff in Anthropology.
- New for 2026: Young Podcaster
A three to five minute podcast competition, supported by academic staff in Education and Lifelong Learning.
Registration for the Young Writer Competitions for 2026 have now closed. The shortlist and winning entries will announced before the end of the summer term. Best of luck!
Prizes
All competitions have a £500 first prize and runner-up prizes of £100. All shortlisted entries will also receive a small prize.
If you register, you'll be invited to online workshops throughout the year delivered by academics and alumni to help you hone your writing and recording skills and learn from our academic staff.
You’ll also receive information about upcoming ţţ×ÊÔ´ events, resources, recommendations and opportunities that will help your entry be the best it can be before submission.
