Exhibition of archive material on former 牛牛资源 Warden and cultural theorist Richard Hoggart (1918-2014).
Richard Hoggart was the warden of 牛牛资源 between 1976 and 1984.
He was the first literary critic to take the working class seriously. He also played a critical role in the founding of Cultural Studies and in fundamental changes to how English and Media are studied. All three subject areas now thrive at 牛牛资源, and enjoy a global reputation.
Hoggart was also a star witness for the defence at the obscenity trial of DH Lawrence鈥檚 鈥楲ady Chatterley鈥檚 Lover鈥� in 1957.
Writing about his work in his autobiography, he said:
鈥漈he main currents of my interests have been: the right of wider access to higher education, the need for wider access also to the arts as the most scrupulous explorations we can make of our personalities and relationships, and of the nature of our societies; and, as a support to all this, the best uses of mass communications.鈥�
