Event overview
Piano duets and solo piano pieces music by John Lewis, John White and Hugh Shrapnel, performed by Panayotis Archontides and Natalie Tsaldarakis.
Piano duets and solo piano pieces music by John Lewis, John White and Hugh Shrapnel, performed by Panayotis Archontides and Natalie Tsaldarakis, the Greek pianists behind the highly successful husband-and-wife Ivory Duo Piano Ensemble.
This concert will feature pieces from the new album 鈥淓lements Of London鈥. Influenced by minimalism and jazz blues, the piano duets present an exciting mix of driving rhythms contrasted by lyrical writing. Hugh Shrapnel鈥檚 compelling narrative stems from London and its history, whereas John Lewis鈥 chemical elements are used to create highly reactive, even explosive music.
See if you can spot the pieces with the Lewisham borough names!
A totally enchanting album of distinctive new music. Engaging, evocative and finely-structured pieces by Hugh Shrapnel and John Lewis are performed with elegance and panache by Ivory Duo Piano Ensemble.鈥 鈥 Sarah Walker (BBC Radio 3 presenter)
The Ivory Duo Piano Ensemble stands at the forefront of contemporary piano composition. Their work is defined by a longstanding commitment to the living composer, having built a significant archive of world-premiere recordings and exclusive interviews with some of the leading voices of our time.
The Duo's work in the field of modern piano duet composition is further consolidated by their long-term association with Convivium Records, where they have recorded works (mostly premieres) of Hugh Shrapnel, John E. Lewis, Clive Osgood, Hugh Benham and others.
The IVORY DUO PIANO ENSEMBLE is based in London since 2005. Both as soloists and as a piano duo, the pianists have a series of releases on Convivium Records and Naxos Direct, while broadcasts include BBC Radio 3, Scala Radio, WQXR (NY, US), Hellenic Radio (ERA-1, ERA-2, ERA-3). They have been included in the American Concerto Compendium (2nd ed.) for their recording of Helen Hagan鈥檚 piano concerto which can be heard in the composer鈥檚 commemorative documentary by Yale University. In 2024, the pianists performed at the
