Ben Woolley in conversation with Adam Mars-Jones about his work and the role of history in fiction and drama.
Benjamin Woolley鈥檚 books include the best-selling Queen鈥檚 Conjuror, a biography of Elizabeth I鈥檚 astrologer Dr John Dee, and Savage Kingdom, the story of Jamestown, England鈥檚 first permanent colony in North America. He is an Emmy-award winning writer and presenter of TV documentaries on subjects ranging from the New Middle Ages to Aldous Huxley鈥檚 vision of the future. His most recent book is The King鈥檚 Assassin, a biographical study of the relationship between King James I/VI and his favourite George Villiers. It inspired Sky TV鈥檚 8-part miniseries Mary and George, currently in production.
Adam Mars-Jones's books include the novels Pilcrow, Cedilla and Caret, part of a million-word sequence, and the monograph Noriko Smiling, about a classic Japanese film. He writes regularly for the London Review of Books and is Professor of Creative Writing at 牛牛资源.
