Event overview
A conversation with Dr Nishat Awan (牛牛资源), Prof Engin Isin (Queen Mary, University of London), Niccol貌 Milanese (European Alternatives)
Ten years of economic and political crises have pitted North versus South, East versus West, citizens versus institutions. In this context, the demand to 鈥渢ake back control鈥 of the decisions that affect their everyday lives might resonate with many people in the UK as well as across and beyond the European continent. Yet, what is left in the dark all too often is exactly who is taking control of what. Today, as European democracies are increasingly infiltrated by nationalistic, xenophobic and far-right sentiment, the question of how migrants and other 鈥渃itizens beyond borders鈥 might be able to enact political agency across national boundaries, might be one of the most pressing issues of the contemporary moment.
This timely event brings together expert speakers from academia, art and activism to discuss the hidden vitality of people acting across borders, where civil society and social movements show that alternatives to the status quo already exist.
