Creative Writing and Ethnography
This presentation will launch We Mark Your Memory: Writing from the Descendants of Indenture an anthology of creative writing edited by David Dabydeen, Maria del Pilar Kaladeen and Tina K. Ramnarine (2018). It will explore the connections between creative writing and ethnography. The discussion will focus on issues around the writing of ethnographic insights as fiction and the legacies of ethnography in a changing research field.
Tina K. Ramnarine is a musician, anthropologist and global cultural explorer. She has undertaken field research across the Nordic countries, the Caribbean, India and Indonesia. Publications include the books听Creating Their Own Space: The Development of an Indian-Caribbean Musical Tradition听(2001),听Ilmatar's Inspirations: Nationalism, Globalization, and the Changing Soundscapes of Finnish Folk Music听(2003),听Beautiful Cosmos: Performance and Belonging in the Caribbean Diaspora听(2007), and an edited volume听Musical Performance in the Diaspora听(2007) and Global Perspectives on Orchestras (2018). She is Professor in Music at RHUL.
